Word on the ice is that Pietrangelo will be wearing the C’ on his chest this coming Blues Season. The Captain seat opened up this July with long time Captain Backes taking a $30 million dollar offer in Boston. Two months later and the Blues have crowned Pietrangelo as the new Captain.
St. Louis, MO – Pietrangelo, who has 51 goals and 255 points in 459 games, finished fourth in the Norris Trophy (NHL’s best defenseman) voting in 2011-12 and he’s received All-Star votes in each of the last five seasons.
He has been among the top 11 in the league in ice time in the same stretch, ranking No. 6 last season at 26 minutes, 18 seconds per game.
Pietrangelo has four years remaining on a seven-year, $45.5 million contract he signed in 2013. His annual average value of $6.5 million ranks second on the team behind forward Vladimir Tarasenko ($7.5 million).
Pietrangelo will become the 10th Blues defenseman to wear the “C,” following Eric Brewer, Al MacInnis, Chris Pronger, Garth Butcher, Scott Stevens, Barry Gibbs, Barclay Plager, Bob Plager and Al Arbour.
