The Struggle Continues: Cardinals Fall to Cubs 6-2 in Series Finale

The St. Louis Cardinals have hit a rough patch in the second half of the Major League Baseball season. Despite a strong start, the team has been unable to find their groove, and Sunday’s game against the rival Cubs only added to their struggles. In a disappointing 6-2 loss, the Cardinals dropped the series and now hold a 57-55 record for the year.

The game was a tough one for St. Louis, with starter Miles Mikolas struggling on the mound. In just four innings, he gave up four runs on eight hits, allowing the Cubs to snatch away the Cardinals’ early two-run lead. It was a frustrating end to the series for the Cardinals, who were hoping to turn things around and gain some momentum.

Unfortunately, the loss only adds to the Cardinals’ recent struggles. In the past few weeks, they have struggled to find consistency and have fallen behind in the standings. With the playoffs quickly approaching, the team will need to regroup and find their groove if they hope to make a strong push for the postseason.

Despite the disappointing outcome, the Cardinals remain determined to turn things around and finish the season strong. With a talented roster and a dedicated fan base, they have the potential to make a comeback and make a statement in the second half of the season. But for now, they will have to regroup and refocus after a tough loss to their rivals.

Struggling Cardinals Fall to Rival Cubs in Series Finale

CHICAGO, Ill. (KMIZ) – The St. Louis Cardinals have hit a rough patch in the second half of the Major League Baseball season. On Sunday, they suffered a 6-2 loss to the rival Cubs, dropping the series and bringing their overall record to 57-55 for the year.

Since the All-Star Break, the Cardinals have struggled, losing nine out of their last 16 games. This trend continued in the series finale against the Cubs, with starter Miles Mikolas having a rough outing on the hill. In just four innings, he gave up four runs on eight hits, allowing Chicago to snatch away St. Louis’ early two-run lead.

The Cardinals briefly took the lead in the third inning with a two-run home run from Masyn Winn, but the Cubs quickly tied the game in the fourth with a sacrifice grounder from Dansby Swanson and a Mitch Tauchman score on a Mikolas balk. In the fifth inning, Chicago took the lead and never looked back, with a Michael Busch RBI single and a Cody Bellinger sacrifice fly making it a 4-2 game.

In the sixth inning, Tauchman and Miguel Amaya added to the Cubs’ lead with solo home runs, making it a four-run game. The Cardinals struggled to get hits, finishing with only four compared to the Cubs’ 11.

Next up for the Cardinals is a one-game home series against the New York Mets at Busch Stadium on Monday, August 5. The game will begin at 4:15 p.m. and the Cardinals will be looking to bounce back from their recent struggles.
