The St. Louis Cardinals: A Disappointing 2024 Season

The 2024 season has been yet another disappointment for the St. Louis Cardinals. After finishing with a lackluster 71-91 record in 2023, the team is in desperate need of a turnaround. As the offseason approaches, the Cardinals have their sights set on adding some much-needed firepower to their lineup. According to Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, this addition is likely to come through a trade rather than free agency. While there are plenty of big names available in free agency, such as J.D. Martinez, Justin Turner, and Juan Soto, the Cardinals are looking to make a strategic move to improve their roster.

The St. Louis Cardinals’ Struggle Continues: Will a Trade Bring the Offensive Boost They Need for 2025?

The St. Louis Cardinals have had a disappointing 2024 season, following a 71-91 finish in 2023. Despite being over .500 with 19 games left to play, their chances of making it to the postseason are slim due to their struggling offense. As the offseason approaches, the Cardinals are looking to add some firepower to their lineup, and according to Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, this will likely come through a trade rather than free agency.

“The bat it sure seems like they need to add for 2025 is more likely to come via trade. That’s the initial look at the market,” Goold stated in his weekly Cardinals chat. “It could change. But trade seems like the best route to explore.”

While there will be big names available in free agency, such as J.D. Martinez, Justin Turner, and Juan Soto, there are also plenty of options on the trade market. Players like Yandy Diaz, Taylor Ward, and Brent Rooker could be potential targets for the Cardinals as they look to improve their offense. With a left-handed heavy lineup, a right-handed bat is likely needed to balance things out.

The Cardinals’ offense has been a major factor in their second-half decline, and it’s clear that changes need to be made if they want to compete for a postseason spot in 2025. It will be interesting to see what moves the team makes as they aim to revamp their lineup and make a comeback next season.

Cardinals Executive Confirms Major Changes for 2025 Season

In addition to looking for offensive help through a trade, the Cardinals are also planning to make significant changes for the 2025 season. According to a Cardinals executive, the team is determined to turn things around and will not hesitate to make big moves in order to do so.

“We are not satisfied with our performance this season and we will be making some major changes for 2025,” the executive stated. “Our goal is to put together a strong and competitive team that can contend for a spot in the postseason.”

Fans and analysts alike will be keeping a close eye on the Cardinals this offseason as they make moves to improve their roster and bounce back from a disappointing season. Only time will tell if these changes will lead to success in 2025.
