ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMIZ) – The Cardinals’ Lance Lynn and Ryan Helsley made history on Sunday as their dominant performances helped lift the team to a 2-0 win over the Reds, securing a four-game series split.
Lynn joined an elite group of players in franchise history by surpassing 1,000 career strikeouts in a St. Louis uniform. He became just the sixth player to achieve this feat, joining the likes of Chris Carpenter, Dizzy Dean, Bob Forsch, Bob Gibson, and Adam Wainwright.
The 37-year-old veteran pitcher’s milestone was the highlight of his brilliant outing in the series finale. He threw six shutout innings, allowing only two hits and striking out six batters.
In the second inning, Lynn recorded his landmark strikeout, setting the stage for the team’s closer to make his own mark on the franchise’s history.
