Miles Mikolas Shines in Cardinals Loss to Mets

JUPITER, Fla. –

In a sunny and warm spring training game, Miles Mikolas delivered his best performance yet, allowing only one run over five innings. Despite his strong outing, the Cardinals fell short to the Mets with a final score of 2-0.

The game provided an opportunity for the Cardinals to practice a potential game situation in the ninth inning. With Victor Scott II leading off with a single and stealing second, pinch-hitter Luken Baker stepped up to the plate after a Michael Siani strikeout. The team has been working on finding spots for Baker during the spring, knowing he could potentially find himself in this exact situation during the regular season.

Manager Oli Marmol commented on the importance of mimicking game situations, stating, “It’s good to be able to do it from time to time.” Baker drew a walk to keep the potential rally going, but the Cardinals were unable to capitalize as Matt Koperniak struck out and Thomas Saggese flew out to right.

Despite the loss, there were some standout performances from the Cardinals. Mikolas had a strong outing, only allowing two hits and striking out three. Pedro Pages also had a solid day at the plate, leading off the sixth inning with a double.

In other news, top prospect J.J. Weatherholt was reassigned to the minor-league camp after a successful first big-league camp. He will be playing in the spring breakout prospects game on Friday. After the game, Tekoah Roby was also optioned to Springfield.
