Cincinnati Reds Launch Scholarship Fund in Memory of Late Pitcher Tom Browning
In a heartwarming gesture, the Cincinnati Reds have announced the creation of a scholarship fund to honor the memory of former pitcher Tom Browning, who passed away in 2022. The fund will provide financial assistance to aspiring young athletes who share Browning’s passion for the game of baseball.
The Reds organization, along with Browning’s family and friends, have come together to establish this scholarship as a way to pay tribute to the beloved pitcher’s legacy. Browning, who spent 11 seasons with the Reds and was a key member of the 1990 World Series championship team, was known for his dedication, talent, and love for the game.
The scholarship fund will be open to high school seniors who have demonstrated exceptional skills and commitment to baseball, as well as a strong academic record. The selected recipients will receive financial support to pursue their dreams of playing at the collegiate level.
According to Reds CEO Bob Castellini, the scholarship fund is a fitting way to honor Browning’s memory and continue his legacy of inspiring young athletes. “Tom was not only a talented player, but also a role model for many young baseball players. We hope this scholarship will help carry on his passion for the game and support the next generation of players,” said Castellini.

High School Graduates Cameron Snider and Madison Goddard Honored with $5,000 Scholarships
The Reds Hall of Fame and Museum, presented by Dinsmore, has announced the winners of the 2024 Tom Browning Scholarships. The recipients are high school graduates Cameron Snider from Bethel-Tate High School and Madison Goddard from Ryle High School. These two outstanding pitchers will each receive a $5,000 scholarship to further their education.
The winning pitchers will be celebrated in a pregame ceremony prior to the Cincinnati Reds vs. St. Louis Cardinals game at Great American Ball Park on August 13. This event will honor the achievements of these young athletes and recognize their dedication to both their sport and their studies.
Ryle’s Madison Goddard was a standout player during her senior season, serving as the varsity team captain and finishing fourth in the Ninth Region in wins (12), ERA (2.29), and strikeouts (159). Her impressive performance on the field earned her recognition and awards, including being named All-City Player of the Year, Southern Buckeye Athletic & Academic Conference Player of the Year, and Cincinnati Enquirer Division III Player of the Year.
The Tom Browning Scholarship Fund was established in 2023 to honor the legacy of Reds Hall of Fame pitcher Tom Browning, who passed away in 2022 at the age of 62. Browning is remembered for pitching the only perfect game in Reds history on September 16, 1988, and for his contributions to the Reds’ 1990 World Championship team. He was inducted into the Reds Hall of Fame in 2006 and was known as an ambassador for the Reds and the game of baseball.

Starting in 2024, the Tom Browning Scholarships will be awarded annually to a high school baseball pitcher and a high school softball pitcher from the Tri-State area who excel on the field and in school academically, and demonstrate exceptional leadership and community service.
Bethel-Tate’s Cameron Snider had an impressive senior year, earning an 8-2 record with a 0.88 ERA in 56 innings pitched and striking out 86 batters. He also led his team to league and sectional titles. Snider maintained a 4.16 grade-point average and received numerous awards and accolades for his performance on the field. He was also a leader off the field, participating in organizations such as the National Honor Society, National Technical Honor Society, and Drug Free Club. Snider will continue his education at Thomas More University.
Madison Goddard, a Magna Cum Laude graduate from Ryle High School, had a 4.65 grade-point average and was a standout player on the softball field. She served as the varsity team captain and finished fourth in the Ninth Region in wins (12), ERA (2.29), and strikeouts (159). She also ranked fourth in the region in home runs (seven) and RBIs (32) and was named Ryle’s 2024 Offensive Player of the Year. Goddard received numerous awards, including a Cincinnati Enquirer All-Star Award, first-team honors from the Northern Kentucky Softball Coaches Association, and a Kentucky Softball Coaches Association All-State selection.
