Don’t Miss Out on the I-70 Series Part 2: Royals vs. Cardinals

Did you miss the chance to catch the I-70 series Part 1 in St. Louis last month? Don’t worry, you still have a chance to see the Kansas City Royals and St. Louis Cardinals face off next weekend on Friday and Saturday, Aug. 9 and 10, at Kauffman Stadium.

Get ready to see some new players and a familiar face as the Cardinals welcome back a former teammate. Both teams were active buyers at the trade deadline, looking to strengthen their weak areas and improve their chances of making it to the postseason.

Royals Make a Splash with Trade Deadline Acquisitions

The Royals made a big move by acquiring reliever Hunter Harvey from the Washington Nationals. Harvey currently leads the league in holds with 28, making him a valuable addition to the bullpen.

In addition to Harvey, the Royals also added Michael Lorenzen from the Texas Rangers and former Cardinals shortstop Paul DeJong from the Chicago White Sox. DeJong made his debut with the Royals on Wednesday, playing third base in a 10-3 win over the White Sox.

Cardinals Bring Back Familiar Faces

The Cardinals’ biggest trade deadline move was a three-team trade that brought back outfielder Tommy Pham and starting pitcher Erick Fedde. Pham wasted no time making an impact, hitting a grand slam in his first at-bat back with the Cardinals on Tuesday night.

The Cardinals also sent Dylan Carlson to the Tampa Bay Rays for relief pitcher Shawn Armstrong. While this move may not make much sense for the Cardinals’ strong bullpen, it could be a chance for Carlson to shine and reach his full potential.

Missed Opportunities for the Cardinals

While the Cardinals made some solid moves at the trade deadline, they also missed out on a big opportunity by letting former Cardinal Jack Flaherty go last year. Flaherty is now with the Los Angeles Dodgers and could be a key player in their quest for a World Series title.

Both the Royals and Cardinals were active buyers at the trade deadline, and it will be exciting to see how these new additions impact the teams in the final stretch of the season. Don’t miss out on the I-70 Series Part 2 and see these teams battle it out on the field.
