St. Louis Cardinals’ Lance Lynn Suffers Career-Worst Start Against Nationals

In a disappointing turn of events, St. Louis Cardinals’ starting pitcher Lance Lynn had a rough outing against the Washington Nationals. In just 2 2/3 innings, Lynn allowed a career-worst 11 runs, with 10 of them being earned. This performance was far from what fans and teammates have come to expect from the seasoned pitcher.

The Nationals took full advantage of Lynn’s struggles, coasting to a comfortable victory over the Cardinals. Lynn’s lackluster performance was a major factor in the team’s defeat, leaving fans and coaches alike questioning what went wrong for the usually reliable pitcher.

Despite this setback, Lynn remains a key player for the Cardinals and is expected to bounce back from this rough start. With his experience and determination, it’s only a matter of time before he returns to his dominant form on the mound. But for now, this game will go down as one of the worst in Lynn’s career, a reminder that even the best players can have off days.

St. Louis Cardinals starter Lance Lynn had a rough outing on Saturday, allowing a career-worst 11 runs, 10 of which were earned, on nine hits in just 2 2/3 innings. The Nationals took full advantage of Lynn’s struggles, coasting to a 14-6 victory over the Cardinals in Washington, D.C.

Saturday’s Game Report: Nationals 14, Cardinals 6

After a thrilling comeback win on Friday night, the Cardinals were hoping to continue their momentum against the Nationals. However, they were met with a devastating loss, just 24 hours later.

The Nationals wasted no time getting on the board, as C.J. Abrams hit Lynn’s first pitch of the game for a home run. By the end of the second inning, the Nationals had hit two more homers and built a commanding 9-0 lead.

Lynn’s performance was the shortest of the year for a Cardinals starter, throwing 82 pitches to get just eight outs. The Nationals continued to add runs off of relievers Matthew Liberatore and Giovanny Gallegos, who combined to pitch the final 5 1/3 innings.

At the Plate

The Cardinals did manage to mount a brief rally, scoring four runs in the third inning and one more in the fourth. However, they were unable to replicate their impressive comeback from the previous night. Nolan Gorman had a standout performance with three hits, including two doubles, while Nolan Arenado extended his hitting streak to six games with singles in his first two at-bats.

The Cardinals also drew seven walks and had 11 hits, but were only able to score two runs as they left 12 runners on base. They struggled with runners in scoring position, going just 4-for-19.

On the Mound

After playing three consecutive extra-inning games, the Cardinals were hoping for a solid outing from Lynn. However, he had the worst start of his career, allowing 11 runs in just 2 2/3 innings. This was the most runs allowed by a Cardinals starter since 2011.

Looking Ahead

The Cardinals will look to bounce back on Sunday with Kyle Gibson on the mound. They are currently in a stretch of facing five consecutive left-handed starters, their longest streak since 2008. The four-game series against the Nationals will conclude on Monday. Despite their winning record, the Cardinals have been outscored by 44 runs so far this season.
