Southwest Airlines, the top operating carrier at St. Louis Lambert International Airport (STL), has just announced exciting news for travelers. Starting June 4, the airline will be offering daily flights to Hollywood Burbank Airport (BUR), making it their fourth destination in southern California. This adds to their existing service to Los Angeles International (LAX), Long Beach (LGB), and San Diego International (SAN). Additionally, Southwest will also be launching Saturday flights to Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport (SAV) and Norfolk International Airport (ORF).

According to STL Airport Director Rhonda Hamm-Niebruegge, the addition of Burbank as a fourth destination in southern California is a major win for travelers. “We are thrilled to offer our passengers even more non-stop options to this highly sought-after destination,” she says.

With a whopping 886 Southwest departures scheduled weekly starting in June, this marks the highest number of outgoing flights by a single airline (Southwest) in one week since June of 2011 (897). The airline’s upgraded aircrafts at STL also mean that they will be able to offer the most weekly outbound seats in their history, with over 140,000 available. On their website, Hollywood Burbank is described as the closest airport to the most popular tourist spots in Los Angeles, just 12 miles north of downtown. Similarly, Savannah/Hilton Head is conveniently located less than ten miles from the trendy Hilton Head Island resort area. And lastly, Norfolk International serves as the main airport for coastal Virginia and the growing northeast North Carolina region.
