FIFA World Cup 2022

The 2022 FIFA World Cup continued Friday with more action on FOX, as the Netherlands and Ecuador battled to a 1-1 draw at Khalifa International Stadium in Doha, Qatar. Both earned a point in Group A for their efforts.

The Dutch extended their group stage unbeaten run at the World Cup to 16 games. They haven’t lost in nine straight World Cup matches against South American sides. On the other side, Ecuador continued its winless streak against European sides in its last five World Cup games, scoring just twice across those five matches.

Earlier, Iran capitalized on a late Wales red card and scored a pair of goals in stoppage time en route to a 2-0 victory and three points in Group B, while Senegal earned a 3-1 win over Qatar and three points in Group A.

You can watch this game and every match of the tournament on the FOX Sports family of networks — the tournament’s official English-language broadcast partner in the U.S. — and the FOX Sports app and FOXSports.com. You can also stream full-match replays for free on Tubi.

Here are the top plays.

Netherlands 1, Ecuador 1

6′: Goal!

Netherlands forward Cody Gakpo didn’t waste any time getting De Oranjes on the board. In fact, it was the fastest goal of the tournament thus far, taking just five minutes and four seconds.

32′ : Denied!

Ecuador’s Enner Valencia, who scored the first two goals of the World Cup when Ecuador defeated Qatar in the tournament’s opening match, had a great shot on goal, but he wasn’t able to connect.

Netherlands keeper Andries Noppert came up with the crucial save to keep the Dutch team on top.

45’+3′: What could have been

Ecuador’s Pervis Estupiñán appeared to tie the game just ahead of halftime, but the goal was overturned after a VAR review. Just like that, it remained a one-point game at the break.

59′: So close!

Ecuador had some trouble in the second half. First, Jhegson Méndez was given the first yellow card of the game in the 57th minute. Then, Gonzalo Plata was this close to giving Ecuador the lead, but instead, his shot hit the crossbar and both teams kept battling.

89′: Injury alert

If that wasn’t enough, Ecuador’s star, Valencia, had to be carried off the field with an apparent leg injury late in the match. Kevin Rodríguez checked in for his injured teammate, but things ended shortly after.
