The St. Louis Cardinals Prepare for All-Star Break with New Additions to Roster
The St. Louis Cardinals are taking a break on Monday before heading into a six-game home stand leading up to the All-Star break. But before they hit the field, there’s some exciting news for Cardinals Nation.
National League manager Dave Roberts has announced that Brendan Donovan will be joining the N.L. All-Star roster as a reserve second baseman. Cardinals skipper Oli Marmol shared the news with Donovan before Sunday’s game at Wrigley Field. Donovan, who is hitting .296 with seven homers and 32 RBI this season, will be the only St. Louis Cardinal representing the team at the All-Star Game.
Donovan’s impressive near .300 batting average is not the only reason he was chosen for the All-Star roster. His defensive skills have also been recognized, making him a valuable addition to the team. The 28-year-old was drafted in the seventh round in 2018 and played in Springfield in 2021. This will be his first ever All-Star Game appearance.
But Donovan may not be the only Cardinal representing the team at the All-Star Game. There is still a chance for more players to be added before the game on Tuesday, July 15th in Atlanta.
Meanwhile, the Kansas City Royals have also received some recognition with Bobby Witt Jr. being added as a reserve shortstop and Kris Bubic named as a pitcher for the American League.
