2025 MLB Draft: Lefties, New Directions, and Shortstops Galore
Washington Nationals Set to Make First Selection
The 2025 MLB Draft is set to kick off tonight at 6 p.m. ET, and it’s shaping up to be an exciting one. With a plethora of talented left-handed pitchers, several organizations looking to make a change, and a surplus of shortstops, this draft is sure to be one for the books. Tune in to ESPN and MLB Network for live coverage, starting with Commissioner Rob Manfred announcing the Washington Nationals’ first pick at the Battery’s Roxy Theater.
Will the Nationals Choose Ethan Holliday?
The Nationals won the draft lottery in December, making them the favorites to select Oklahoma prep shortstop Ethan Holliday. Holliday, son of All-Star Matt Holliday and brother of 2022 No. 1 overall pick Jackson Holliday, could potentially join the ranks of NFL quarterbacks Peyton and Eli Manning as the only brothers to both be drafted first overall. However, a strong showing from college standouts like LSU left-hander Kade Anderson, Tennessee lefty Liam Doyle, and Holliday’s friend and Oklahoma high school cohort Eli Willits could shake things up.
First Three Rounds Tonight, Rest on Monday
The first three rounds of the draft, including compensation picks, will take place tonight. The remaining rounds 4 through 20 will be held on Monday, away from the TV cameras. So make sure to tune in tonight to catch all the action.
