Top Prospect Tekoah Roby Placed on Injured List After Impressive Four-Game Streak
In a shocking turn of events, the highly touted No. 10 prospect, Tekoah Roby, has been sidelined due to injury after a string of dominant performances on the mound. The young pitcher had been on a hot streak, showcasing his exceptional skills in his last four starts. However, his promising run has come to a halt as he hits the injured list.
Red-Hot Cardinals Pitching Prospect Placed on Injured List
St. Louis Cardinals’ No. 10 prospect, Tekoah Roby, has been dominating on the mound in his last four starts. However, on Monday, he was placed on the 7-day injured list after his impressive 5 2/3-inning shutout performance last week, where he struck out six batters.
Roby’s injury has not been specified, but it adds to the growing list of injuries to pitching prospects in the Cardinals organization this season. No. 5 Tink Hence and No. 2 Quinn Mathews have also missed time, while No. 11 Cooper Hjerpe has been out all season after undergoing Tommy John surgery.
The 23-year-old prospect has been having a stellar year on the mound, earning him a promotion from Double-A to Triple-A earlier in the season – his first promotion since before the 2023 season.
During his 10 starts with Double-A Springfield, Roby maintained an impressive 2.49 ERA and struck out 57 batters in 47 innings. He was then promoted to Triple-A Memphis on June 9. Although he struggled in his first two starts, allowing 12 runs, he seems to have found his footing in the last couple of weeks.
Since June 22, Roby has only allowed two earned runs in 21 innings across his last four starts. In this span, the Asheville, North Carolina native has struck out 21 batters and walked just five, carrying a 0.86 ERA and 1.10 WHIP.
Despite the growing list of injuries to pitchers in the Cardinals’ minor league system, there is hope on the horizon. The team recently drafted 12 college pitchers in the MLB Draft earlier this week.
