The Los Angeles Dodgers’ Bullpen Woes: A Major Obstacle in Their Quest for NL West Dominance

The Los Angeles Dodgers may be sitting comfortably atop the NL West with a four-game lead and a powerhouse offense, but their bullpen struggles have been a constant thorn in their side, hindering their ability to break away from the competition.

Injuries have played a significant role in the Dodgers’ bullpen woes, with key players such as Blake Treinen, Kirby Yates, Michael Kopech, and Tanner Scott all missing significant portions of the season. These absences have left the team scrambling for reliable relief arms, a task that has proven to be a source of frustration for the team’s president of baseball operations, Andrew Friedman.

Despite spending over $100 million on bolstering their bullpen during the offseason, the Dodgers have been unable to find a solid solution to their relief pitching woes. As the trade market heats up, Friedman and the Dodgers’ front office are on the lookout for viable options to strengthen their bullpen and solidify their chances of dominating the NL West.

Dodgers Eyeing Cardinals’ Ryan Helsley as Trade Deadline Approaches

The Los Angeles Dodgers may have a comfortable lead in the NL West and a powerhouse offense, but their bullpen struggles continue to hold them back. Despite spending over $100 million on relief pitchers in the offseason, injuries and inconsistent performances have plagued the Dodgers’ bullpen.

As the trade deadline approaches, Dodgers’ president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman is on the lookout for viable relief arms. One player on their radar is St. Louis Cardinals closer Ryan Helsley, according to MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand.

Interest from Multiple Teams

According to Feinsand, Helsley is a popular trade target with at least six teams showing interest, including the Yankees, Mets, Phillies, Rangers, and Blue Jays.

Helsley, who is set to become a free agent, has a 3-1 record with a 3.00 ERA and 21 saves in 36 innings pitched this season. It is unclear if the Dodgers are eyeing him as a potential closer or setup reliever, but his addition would undoubtedly bolster their bullpen.

Rekindling All-Star Form

Although Helsley has not been as dominant as he was in his Reliever of the Year award-winning season, he has shown signs of returning to his All-Star form since June 5th. In 15 innings, he has a 3.00 ERA, 18 strikeouts, just three walks, and eight saves. If the Dodgers are willing to pay a premium for a rental, Helsley could be the perfect fit.
