Los Angeles Dodgers Claim 28-Year-Old First Baseman Luken Baker Off Waivers

In a surprising move, the Los Angeles Dodgers have added 28-year-old first baseman Luken Baker to their roster after claiming him off waivers on Monday.

Baker, who was previously with the Texas Rangers, brings a wealth of experience and talent to the Dodgers lineup. Standing at 6’4″ and weighing 265 pounds, he is known for his powerful hitting and solid defensive skills at first base.

The Dodgers, who currently hold the best record in the MLB, are looking to strengthen their roster as they make a push for the playoffs. With Baker’s addition, they now have a formidable lineup that will be a force to be reckoned with.

Baker, a former standout at Texas Christian University, was drafted by the Rangers in the second round of the 2018 MLB Draft. He quickly rose through the ranks of the minor leagues and made his major league debut in 2020.

Despite his potential, Baker struggled to find consistent playing time with the Rangers and was ultimately placed on waivers. However, the Dodgers saw an opportunity to add a talented player to their roster and wasted no time in claiming him.

Fans are eager to see how Baker will fit into the Dodgers’ lineup and contribute to their already impressive season. With his skills and determination, he is sure to make a significant impact on the team’s success.

Cardinals Slugger Snatched Up by Dodgers After Trade Deadline

After a whirlwind of rumors leading up to the MLB trade deadline, the St. Louis Cardinals made some major moves, trading away top pitchers and acquiring a group of promising prospects for the future. But their roster shake-up didn’t end there.

The Cardinals also designated 28-year-old slugger Luken Baker for assignment. However, he didn’t stay on waivers for long. According to Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, the Los Angeles Dodgers claimed Baker on Monday.

Baker, who has been with the Cardinals since 2018, was drafted with the No. 75 overall pick in the MLB Draft. While he has mostly played for the Cardinals’ Triple-A affiliate, the Memphis Redbirds, he does have some experience at the major league level.

Standing at 6-foot-4 and weighing 285 pounds, Baker has appeared in 72 games for the Cardinals since 2023. During that time, he has a .201 batting average, .314 on-base percentage, .327 slugging percentage, and a .641 OPS. He has also hit four home runs and 22 RBI.

However, with Alex Burleson excelling at first base and Willson Contreras and Ivan Herrera taking most of the designated hitter at-bats, the Cardinals didn’t have a spot for Baker. This move clears up another roster spot for the team.

Baker will likely join the Los Angeles Dodgers’ minor league system, with a chance of getting some spot starts if the team continues to struggle with injuries.
