Saturday Notes: Meet Me in St. Louis
The Chicago Cubs are heading to Busch Stadium for their 23rd series in the past 10 seasons. However, their track record at the stadium hasn’t been the best, with last night’s loss marking the 13th time they have lost the first game. In fact, they have been swept in four of those series, including twice in 2022. But there is hope, as they have won the series three times after winning the second game, most recently in 2021. Road Warriors, Again
The Cubs have been performing well on the road, scoring 305 runs, second only to the Brewers’ 334. The Yankees, Mariners, and Giants follow closely behind. (Courtesy BCB’s JohnW53)
Where Have You Gone, Pete Crow-Armstrong?
Pete Crow-Armstrong has been struggling in August, with a .080 batting average and 12 strikeouts in just seven games. He has only managed one double and no walks. But he’s not the only one struggling, as the Cubs’ OPS in August ranks 27th in MLB at .593. In comparison, the Brewers have an OPS of .920 and the Blue Jays are at .983.
Today’s Matchup
The Cubs will send Colin Rea to the mound, who has struggled in his last three starts with a 7.24 ERA and 1.610 WHIP. However, he did have a strong outing against the Cardinals on July 4, allowing just one run in 6.2 innings. The Cardinals will counter with Andre Pallante, who has similar numbers to Rea this season. However, he has had some strong outings recently, including holding the Marlins to just one hit in seven innings on July 26. The game will be broadcast on Fox-TV and can also be streamed on MLB.TV or MLB Extra Innings. Let’s hope the Cubs can come out on top in this matchup.
