Alec Burleson’s Go-Ahead Single Leads Cardinals to Victory Against Marlins

In a much-needed win for the St. Louis Cardinals, Alec Burleson’s impressive performance at the plate helped break their five-game losing streak. The Cardinals defeated the Miami Marlins 8-3 on Monday night, thanks in part to Burleson’s 3 for 4 hitting, including a crucial go-ahead single in the seventh inning.

The game was tied at 3-3 when Burleson stepped up to the plate. With a runner in scoring position, the pressure was on for the young outfielder. And he delivered, sending a powerful hit that Miami right fielder Dane Myers was unable to make a routine catch on at the warning track. This allowed Iván Herrera to score and give the Cardinals a 4-3 lead.

Burleson’s clutch hit was just what the Cardinals needed to turn their luck around. After a tough stretch of losses, the team was determined to come out on top and Burleson’s performance helped make that happen.

But Burleson wasn’t the only standout player for the Cardinals. Nolan Arenado also had a strong showing, going 2 for 4 with a home run and three RBIs. And pitcher Kwang Hyun Kim had a solid outing, allowing just three runs over six innings.

The Cardinals’ win against the Marlins not only ended their losing streak, but it also showed their resilience and determination to bounce back. With Burleson’s go-ahead single and the team’s overall strong performance, the Cardinals are looking to continue their winning ways in the upcoming games.

St. Louis Cardinals Break Losing Streak with 8-3 Win Against Miami Marlins

MIAMI (AP) – In a much-needed victory, the St. Louis Cardinals defeated the Miami Marlins 8-3 on Monday night. The game was marked by a standout performance from Alec Burleson, who went 3 for 4 and hit the go-ahead single in the seventh inning.

The Cardinals’ win was aided by a crucial error from Miami right fielder Dane Myers, who was unable to make a routine catch at the warning track. This allowed a runner to score and put the Cardinals in the lead. Burleson’s RBI single sealed the deal, bringing in Iván Herrera for a 4-3 lead.

St. Louis continued to dominate, adding another run on a single by Pedro Pagés. The Marlins, on the other hand, struggled with two errors, three unearned runs, four wild pitches, and five walks allowed.

Marlins catcher Agustín Ramírez’s league-leading 11 passed balls this year proved costly, as one allowed Garrett Hampson to score. On the next pitch, Nolan Gorman hit a two-run homer, extending the Cardinals’ lead to 8-3.

The Cardinals’ reliever Matt Svanson (2-0) pitched two innings, allowing only one hit and one strikeout for the win. Miami’s Lake Bachar (5-1) allowed four hits in two innings.

The Marlins managed to score in the first inning with a sacrifice fly from Jakob Marslee, who also had an RBI double in the sixth to tie the game at 3-3. Eric Wagaman hit a solo homer in the fourth, but it wasn’t enough to secure a win for Miami.

The key moment of the game came in the sixth inning when the Marlins had a runner in scoring position. However, Cardinals first baseman Willson Contreras caught a line drive and tagged the runner diving back to the bag for a double play, keeping the game tied at 3-3.

One notable stat from the game was Eury Pérez becoming the first pitcher in Miami Marlins history to throw four wild pitches in a game.

The two teams will face off again on Tuesday night, with Edward Cabrera (6-6, 3.34 ERA) starting for the Marlins and Michael McGreevy (4-2, 4.41 ERA) taking the mound for the Cardinals.
