for the wild card. You heard it here first.”

Bold Tweet from Former Cardinals Pitcher Proves to be Misguided

Despite a recent win on Monday, the St. Louis Cardinals are still struggling to catch up in the NL wild card race, sitting 5 1/2 games behind. This comes as a disappointment to fans who were hopeful after a bold prediction from retired Cardinals pitcher Adam Wainwright a few weeks ago.

In a tweet that could be seen as either a bold prediction or pure lunacy, Wainwright confidently declared, “I’m looking at the schedule. I’m calling it now. The Cardinals shock everybody and are playing for a wild card spot on the last series of the season against the Cubs. Cubs-Cards for the wild card. You heard it here first.”

However, as the season progresses, it seems that Wainwright’s prediction is not coming to fruition. The Cardinals are struggling to keep up with their rivals and secure a spot in the playoffs. This tweet, once seen as a bold statement, is now aging like spoiled milk.

It’s a tough reality for Cardinals fans to face, as they had hoped for a strong finish to the season. But with each passing game, Wainwright’s tweet serves as a reminder of the team’s struggles and the disappointment of falling short in the wild card race.

As the season continues, it remains to be seen if the Cardinals can turn things around and prove Wainwright’s prediction to be true. But for now, it seems that this bold tweet has not aged well.

Retired Cardinals Pitcher Adam Wainwright’s Bold Prediction: Cardinals to Shock Everyone and Compete for Wild Card Spot Against Cubs

A few weeks ago, Adam Wainwright, former right-handed pitcher for the St. Louis Cardinals, made a prediction that could be seen as either a hot take or pure lunacy. In a tweet, he declared, “I’m looking at the schedule. I’m calling it now. The Cardinals shock everybody and are playing for a wild card spot on the last series of the season against the Cubs. Cubs-Cards last 3 days of the regular season at Wrigley could be wild.” While some may have dismissed this as wishful thinking, it’s worth taking a closer look at Wainwright’s prediction.

At the time of his tweet on August 9, the Cardinals were sitting at a mediocre 59-59 record and were 4 1/2 games out of a wild card spot. The Cubs, on the other hand, had given up first place in the NL Central to the Milwaukee Brewers and were struggling to find their footing. However, they still held a comfortable lead in the wild card race. Fast forward two weeks to today, and the standings tell a different story.

Unfortunately for the Cardinals, they have actually lost ground in the wild card chase. With a current record of 65-67, they now sit 5 1/2 games out of the final wild card spot. To make matters worse, they have lost eight of their last twelve games. On the other hand, the Cubs have found their groove and have won eight of their last ten games, increasing their lead in the wild card race to six games.

While there are still 30 games left in the season, it seems unlikely that the Cardinals will be able to make Wainwright’s prediction a reality. Their inconsistent play throughout the season makes it difficult to believe that they can suddenly turn things around. According to Fangraphs, the Cardinals currently have a mere 1.3 percent chance of making the postseason, just ahead of the Pittsburgh Pirates at 0 percent. As Jim Carrey’s character in Dumb and Dumber famously said, “So you’re tellin’ me there’s a chance?” But if I were a betting man, I wouldn’t put my money on the Cardinals.

One factor that Wainwright may have overlooked is the remaining strength of schedule for both the Cubs and the Cardinals. Of their remaining 31 games, the Cubs only have to face seven teams with a record above .500. In contrast, the Cardinals have 18 of their remaining 30 games against teams with a winning record. This could prove to be a significant disadvantage for the Cardinals in their pursuit of a wild card spot.

Of course, it’s possible that this article will age like spoiled milk and the Cardinals will make a miraculous comeback in their remaining schedule. But as a journalist, it’s important to analyze the facts and make an informed prediction. And in this case, it seems like Wainwright’s bold prediction may have been a bit too optimistic. After all, the Cardinals are known for being consistent in one thing – being boring.
