ST. LOUIS – After struggling to find their offensive rhythm in the previous three games, the Cardinals came alive in the seventh inning to secure a 4-1 victory over the Pirates on Thursday at Busch Stadium.
The game was tied at 1 when Masyn Winn drew a leadoff walk and Thomas Saggese followed with a double to bring home the go-ahead run. On the very next pitch, Jordan Walker blasted a home run to give the Cardinals a comfortable lead and ultimately secure the win.
Offensive Struggles Come to an End
Before the seventh inning, the Cardinals had only managed to score one run in the previous 28 innings of the series. However, with the help of Saggese and Walker’s back-to-back hits, they were able to break through and earn a split of the four-game series.
