By The Associated Press

ST. LOUIS – In a dominant performance, Willson Contreras had three hits and four RBIs, Nolan Gorman homered, and Matthew Liberatore pitched 5 1/3 shutout innings to lead the St. Louis Cardinals to a 5-1 victory over the Athletics on Wednesday night.

The Cardinals’ offense was firing on all cylinders, with Contreras leading the way with his impressive performance at the plate. Liberatore was also on top of his game, striking out seven batters and allowing no runs in his 5 1/3 innings on the mound.

JoJo Romero came in to close out the game, earning his seventh save of the season. The A’s managed to score one run in the eighth inning, thanks to Nick Kurtz’s 28th home run of the year, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the Cardinals’ dominant performance.

The Cardinals’ next game will be at home on Friday night against the San Francisco Giants, with RHP Michael McGreevy scheduled to start on the mound. The team will be looking to continue their winning streak and maintain their strong position in the league standings.
