ST. LOUIS, MO – The City of St. Louis and partners, including the Missouri Department of Transportation (MODOT), continue to respond to a sinkhole that developed near Interstate I-44 and North Broadway in downtown St. Louis. The Missouri Department of Natural Resources has confirmed that it does not believe there are larger geographical concerns in the area, and as City departments and partners begin repairs, they are encouraging the public to be patient while traveling in the area.Street and Highway Closures: On I-70, only the eastbound express lanes are closed. There are no other ramps or lanes closed on I-70 in either direction as it continues over the Mississippi River. The movement from I-70 Eastbound that becomes I-44 Westbound is closed, so all traffic wanting to go towards Downtown must get off at Tucker Blvd. I-44 Eastbound toward Downtown is closed at the Poplar Street Bridge. All traffic heading to Downtown will want to get off at the Park Ave. exit. Broadway Ave., on both sides of the interstate, is closed at Biddle St. The ramp from I-64 Westbound toward Walnut St. and I-44 Eastbound is closed. Folks who want to access Downtown can use the 9th St. exit. 4th St. is closed north of Washington Ave.GPS software may provide alternative routes based on closures, but for the most up-to-date traveler information, commuters are encouraged to check MODOT’s Traveler Information Map at traveler.modot.org. Water: The water main break has been contained, and there are no service disruptions to residents or businesses at this time. The Water Division has activated necessary partners and contractors to assess the situation and begin the necessary construction and repairs over the coming weeks.Safety: The site of the sinkhole has been contained and secured by the City and its partners. The public should avoid the area for their safety and to allow repair crews to work.  Residents are reminded to contact the Citizen Services Bureau to report any disruption to city services by calling 311 within the City or (314) 622-4800 when outside City limits.
