The Astros Eyeing Big Names: Correa, Arenado, and Suárez

The Houston Astros are not wasting any time in their pursuit of top talent this offseason. According to sources, the team is actively exploring the possibility of acquiring star players Carlos Correa and Nolan Arenado, while also remaining engaged in talks for Eugenio Suárez.

With the departure of key players like George Springer and Josh Reddick, the Astros are looking to fill the void with some big names. And it seems like they have set their sights on Correa and Arenado, two of the most sought-after players in the league.

Correa, a shortstop for the Houston Astros, has been a standout player since his debut in 2015. He has consistently put up impressive numbers and has been a key contributor to the team’s success. The Astros are well aware of his talent and are eager to bring him back for another season.

Arenado, a third baseman for the Colorado Rockies, is another player on the Astros’ radar. He is a six-time All-Star and has won multiple Gold Glove and Silver Slugger awards. His addition to the team would undoubtedly strengthen their lineup and make them a formidable force in the league.

But the Astros are not just focused on these two big names. They are also in talks for Eugenio Suárez, a third baseman for the Cincinnati Reds. Suárez had a breakout season in 2020, hitting 15 home runs and driving in 38 runs in just 57 games. The Astros see him as a valuable asset and are actively pursuing a trade.</

The Houston Astros Eyeing Potential Replacements for Injured Third Baseman Isaac Paredes

The Houston Astros are facing the possibility of losing their power-hitting third baseman Isaac Paredes for the remainder of the season due to a strained hamstring. In light of this, the team is considering bringing in one of their former players to fill the void.

According to a high-ranking executive who spoke to USA TODAY Sports on the condition of anonymity, the Astros are exploring the option of acquiring either Carlos Correa from the Minnesota Twins or Nolan Arenado from the St. Louis Cardinals. They are also in talks with the Arizona Diamondbacks for All-Star third baseman Eugenio Suárez.

Correa’s potential return to the Astros is particularly intriguing as he was a homegrown talent and played a crucial role in the team’s success, including leading them to a World Series title. The Astros had offered him a lucrative contract after the 2021 season, but he chose to sign with the Twins instead. However, after just one season, he opted out of his contract and returned to the Twins on an even bigger deal.

At 30 years old, Correa still has a significant amount of money left on his contract, including a full no-trade clause. However, he has expressed a willingness to waive this clause for the chance to return to Houston, where he and his family still reside during the offseason. The Astros would likely require the Twins to cover a portion of his contract in any potential trade.

Arenado, on the other hand, was almost traded to the Astros last December, but he exercised his no-trade rights and rejected the deal. He had expressed a desire to play for a contender and had a list of teams he would accept a trade to, including the Los Angeles Dodgers, San Diego Padres, Boston Red Sox, New York Yankees, Philadelphia Phillies, and New York Mets. He had also considered waiving his rights for the Astros, but ultimately declined when they traded away All-Star right fielder Kyle Tucker and replaced popular third baseman Alex Bregman.

However, with the Astros currently sitting in first place in the AL West and the Cardinals planning to rebuild and trade veterans, Arenado may now be open to waiving his no-trade clause. He is under contract through 2027 and is owed $56 million.

The most financially feasible option for the Astros would be Suárez, who is in the final year of his contract with the Diamondbacks. He is owed approximately $4.8 million for the rest of the season.
