Atlanta Braves Make Bold Move to Bolster Injured Rotation
In a shocking turn of events, every member of the Atlanta Braves’ opening-day rotation has been sidelined with injuries. But the team refused to let this setback hold them back, as they made a bold trade on Sunday to bring in a new starter.
The Braves announced that they have acquired right-hander Erick Fedde and cash from the St. Louis Cardinals. In exchange, the Cardinals will receive a player to be named or cash. This move comes as a much-needed boost for the Braves, who have been struggling to find healthy arms to fill their rotation.
To make room for Fedde on the 40-man roster, the Braves have transferred pitcher Grant Holmes to the 60-day injured list. This decision was made just hours after placing him on the 15-day IL due to right elbow inflammation.
The addition of Fedde brings a glimmer of hope to the Braves’ rotation, which has been plagued by injuries. The team is hopeful that he will be able to provide some much-needed stability and help lead them to victory. Only time will tell if this trade will pay off for the Braves, but one thing is for sure: they are not giving up without a fight.
Braves Lose Fifth Straight as Starting Rotation Continues to Struggle
ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) – The Atlanta Braves’ starting rotation took another hit on Sunday as right-hander Grant Holmes was placed on the 15-day injured list. This means that all five of the team’s Opening Day starters are now on the injured list.
“We’re going to figure out a way to piece this thing together,” said manager Brian Snitker after the team’s 8-1 loss to the Texas Rangers. “That’s all you can do because the games aren’t going to stop just because we lost our rotation.”
Holmes was sidelined due to elbow inflammation and was replaced on the active roster by Daysbel Hernández, who was recalled from Triple-A Gwinnett. Holmes had pitched four innings in Saturday’s game against the Rangers before being pulled.
Hernández had previously been optioned to Gwinnett on July 13.
The Braves’ other Opening Day starters are all on the 60-day injured list. The string of injuries began during the first week of the season with right-hander Reynaldo López, who underwent surgery for shoulder inflammation. This was followed by right-hander AJ Smith-Shawver’s Tommy John surgery in May, left-hander Chris Sale’s fractured rib cage in June, and right-hander Spencer Schwellenbach’s fractured elbow in July.
Together, the five starters have made a total of 63 starts this season.
“We’re professionals,” Snitker stated. “We’re getting paid to do this. We signed a contract. So every day, we’re going to go out and give it our best shot and win the game.”
