Alec Burleson’s Walk-Off Homer Secures Cardinals’ Win Against Pirates

In a thrilling game on Monday, Alec Burleson of the St. Louis Cardinals hit a game-ending solo homer in the ninth inning, leading his team to a 7-6 victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates. The crowd erupted as Burleson drove an 87 mph slider from Dennis Santana (4-5) deep to center for his 16th homer of the season. This was Santana’s first run allowed since Aug. 6, making Burleson’s homer even more impressive.

The Cardinals had a strong start, with Nolan Arenado hitting a two-run homer in the first inning. However, the Pirates fought back and tied the game in the seventh inning with a three-run homer from Bryan Reynolds. The game remained tied until Burleson’s clutch hit in the ninth.

In a thrilling game on Monday, the St. Louis Cardinals emerged victorious with a 7-6 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates thanks to a game-ending solo homer by Alec Burleson in the ninth inning.

Burleson, who had already notched three hits earlier in the game, drove an 87 mph slider from Pirates pitcher Dennis Santana deep to center for his 16th homer of the season. This was the first run allowed by Santana since August 6, breaking his streak of six consecutive scoreless appearances.

Despite the loss, Santana had a strong performance on the mound, surrendering just three hits in 6 1/3 scoreless innings. However, it was not enough to hold off the Cardinals’ offense.

St. Louis’ Willson Contreras also had a standout game, contributing two RBIs to the team’s victory. The Cardinals had been struggling in recent games, losing eight out of their last 11, but this win brings them back on track.

On the pitching side, Michael McGreevy put in a solid performance for the Cardinals, allowing just four runs and six hits in six innings.
