St. Louis Cardinals Activate Victor Scott II from Injured List Ahead of Labor Day Matchup with Oakland Athletics

The St. Louis Cardinals have made a major roster move, announcing the activation of centerfielder Victor Scott II from the 10-day injured list on Monday morning. According to MLB.com’s John Denton, Scott’s return comes just in time for the team’s Labor Day matchup with the Oakland Athletics.

Scott, who has been sidelined with an injury, recently completed a brief three-game rehab stint at Double-A Springfield before being cleared to rejoin the Cardinals. However, despite his return to the major league club, Scott will not be in the starting lineup for the Labor Day game.

Meanwhile, first baseman Willson Contreras, who was handed a six-game suspension on Aug. 26, will remain in the starting lineup for the Cardinals. This comes as a surprise to many, as Contreras was expected to serve his suspension during this crucial matchup with the Athletics. Stay tuned for updates on how this decision will impact the Cardinals’ lineup and strategy for the game.

The St. Louis Cardinals Activate Victor Scott II from Injured List Ahead of Labor Day Matchup

The St. Louis Cardinals have announced the return of centerfielder Victor Scott II from the 10-day injured list on Monday morning, just in time for their Labor Day game against the Oakland Athletics. According to MLB.com’s John Denton, Scott has been sidelined since August 16th with a left ankle sprain.

After a brief three-game rehab stint at Double-A Springfield, Scott is now back with the major league club. However, he will not be in the starting lineup for the Labor Day game. In contrast, first baseman Willson Contreras, who was handed a six-game suspension on August 26th, remains in the starting lineup for the Cardinals.

Contreras was ejected from the Cardinals’ game against the Pittsburgh Pirates on August 25th after making a derogatory comment and displaying unsportsmanlike behavior. He has denied making any such comment and has appealed the suspension.

“I’m still wondering, to be honest, because I don’t think he had any reason to throw me out,” Contreras said after the game (h/t MLB.com). “I didn’t argue any pitch in any at-bat and I didn’t argue any pitch in my last at-bat. The only thing I said was, ‘Call the pitches for both sides because you are missing for us.’ He threw me out and he had no reason for it. Apparently, he heard something [he thought] I said, and I did not say that.”

Despite Contreras’ appeal, he has yet to have his hearing and remains in the starting lineup for the Cardinals. In other injury news, right-handed pitcher Riley O’Brien underwent an MRI on his sore right shoulder on Monday morning and will be shut down until a course of action is determined, according to Denton.

O’Brien has been a standout player for the Cardinals this season, boasting an impressive 1.69 ERA across 31 games. He has been relied upon in high-pressure situations and has even taken on closing roles.

The Cardinals will kick off their three-game series against the A’s on Labor Day with Sonny Gray taking the mound.
