The St. Louis Cardinals Deliver Disappointing News About Nolan Gorman After Missing Friday’s Game

The St. Louis Cardinals have shared some unfortunate news regarding their highly anticipated prospect, Nolan Gorman. The team announced that Gorman will not be playing in Friday’s game, leaving fans disappointed and concerned about his status. This unexpected update has left many wondering what could have happened to the young player and how it will affect the team’s performance.

Cardinals Announce Disappointing Nolan Gorman News After One Missed Game

Infielder Nolan Gorman, a key player for the St. Louis Cardinals, has been dealing with chronic back problems throughout his career. However, the team had high hopes for the 25-year-old when they selected him in the first round of the 2018 MLB Draft.

After making his major-league debut in 2022, Gorman showed promise in his first full season with the Cardinals in 2023. He had an impressive batting average of .236 and an .805 OPS, along with 27 home runs and 76 RBIs. Unfortunately, his back issues limited him to only 119 games.

Last year, Gorman’s performance was disappointing and he was eventually demoted to Triple-A. However, he returned to the big-league roster in 2025 and had been making regular appearances as a designated hitter.

But on Friday, Gorman was unexpectedly scratched from the lineup against the Arizona Diamondbacks. The team has now announced that he will be placed on the injured list due to back pain.

Although Gorman’s 2025 season has been more productive than last year, he has yet to reach the peak offensive production he showed in 2023. In 66 games this year, he has a .219 batting average, .718 OPS, nine home runs, and 29 RBIs.

With the trade deadline approaching and the Cardinals just outside of the playoff picture with a record of 51-47, losing Gorman is a significant blow. Every game is crucial in determining the team’s path forward.
