Jordan Walker Set to Rejoin Cardinals After Successful Rehab Stint with Double-A Springfield

After a 10-game stint with Double-A Springfield, top prospect Jordan Walker is ready to make his return to the St. Louis Cardinals on Friday. The highly anticipated reunion comes after a successful rehab period for the young slugger.

Walker, who has been sidelined with a wrist injury, has been working hard to get back to full strength. His time with Double-A Springfield allowed him to fine-tune his skills and regain his confidence at the plate.

The 19-year-old third baseman has been turning heads since being drafted by the Cardinals in the first round of the 2020 MLB Draft. With his impressive power and strong defensive abilities, Walker has quickly become a fan favorite and a top prospect in the organization.

Fans can expect to see Walker back in action on Friday as the Cardinals take on the Chicago Cubs. His return is sure to bring excitement and a much-needed boost to the team’s lineup. Be sure to tune in and watch as Walker continues to make his mark in the major leagues.

Cardinals Announce Jordan Walker’s Return Before Diamondbacks Series

The St. Louis Cardinals have some exciting news to share before they hit the diamond for their series against the Diamondbacks. Jordan Walker has been activated from the 10-day injured list and will be joining the team in Arizona.

But with this good news comes a roster change. Thomas Saggese has been optioned to Triple-A Memphis to make room for Walker’s return.

After dealing with appendicitis and a wrist injury, Walker spent some time on a rehab stint with Double-A Springfield. However, his performance during this time may not have been up to his or the team’s expectations.

In 10 games with Springfield, the 23-year-old former top prospect only managed to get six hits in 38 at-bats, resulting in a .185 average. He also struck out 12 times, giving him a 31.6% strikeout rate, and had a low on-base percentage of .256. However, when he did make contact, he made it count with three doubles and two home runs, driving in four runs and scoring five times.

Despite his slow start, Walker ended his stint with Springfield on a high note with a four-game hitting streak, including his two home runs and three walks.

Now, as he returns to the Cardinals with a record of 51-46, Walker will be looking to improve his performance. So far, he has a disappointing slash line of .210/.267/.295 with only 37 hits and 23 RBI in 176 at-bats at the major league level.

With the trade deadline approaching, and plenty of outfield depth waiting in the ranks, such as Mike Antico, Michael Siani, and Nathan Church, the pressure is on for Walker to step up his game. Otherwise, he may face the same fate as Dylan Carlson, another former top prospect who was traded last year.
