The Cardinals to Place Nolan Arenado on 10-Day IL Due to Shoulder Injury
According to The Athletic’s Katie Woo, the St. Louis Cardinals will be making a tough decision prior to Friday’s game. Star third baseman Nolan Arenado is expected to be placed on the 10-day injured list due to a shoulder injury.
This news comes as a blow to both the team and fans, as Arenado has been a key player for the Cardinals since joining the team in the offseason. The five-time All-Star has been a consistent performer at the plate and a defensive powerhouse at third base.
The specifics of Arenado’s injury have not been disclosed, but it is clear that it is serious enough to warrant a stint on the IL. This will be the first time in his career that he has been placed on the injured list.
The Cardinals will have to make adjustments to their lineup without Arenado’s presence. This could potentially impact their performance on the field, as they currently hold a record of 22-15 and are in second place in the NL Central.
It is unclear how long Arenado will be sidelined, but the team will surely be monitoring his progress closely. In the meantime, they will have to rely on their depth and other players to step up in his absence.
This news serves as a reminder of the unpredictable nature of sports and the importance of depth in a team’s roster. The Cardinals will have to rally together and continue to push forward without one of their star players.
Cardinals Expected to Place Nolan Arenado on 10-Day Injured List
St. Louis Cardinals to be Without Star Third Baseman as They Face San Diego Padres
Less than 24 hours after the MLB trade deadline, the St. Louis Cardinals are facing a major setback as they prepare to take on the San Diego Padres in a three-game series.
According to The Athletic’s Katie Woo, the Cardinals are expected to place Nolan Arenado on the 10-day injured list due to a shoulder injury. This news comes after the 34-year-old third baseman has been playing through the issue since early July.
Despite sitting out a number of games last month in an attempt to rest his shoulder, Arenado’s performance at the plate has been lackluster. In July, he only managed to hit .175 with two extra-base hits and two RBIs.
Arenado, who is a career .282 hitter, has struggled this season with a batting average of .235, 10 home runs, and 43 RBIs. His last home run was hit on June 21 against the Cincinnati Reds. Throughout his 13-year career, he has only been placed on the injured list three times, with the last time being in 2023.
In a corresponding move, Nolan Gorman is set to come off the 10-day injured list and is expected to take over the majority of starts at third base. The 27-year-old began a rehab assignment on Tuesday and has performed well, hitting .231 with a double and a home run in three games with Double-A Springfield.
On the season, Gorman has a batting average of .219 with nine home runs and 29 RBIs in 66 games. After a strong June where he hit .256 with six home runs and 16 RBIs, Gorman’s performance cooled off in July, hitting only .214 with two home runs in nine games.
The Cardinals are currently five and a half games behind the Padres for the third and final NL Wild Card spot. With the loss of Arenado, they will have to rely on Gorman and the rest of the team to step up and make a push for the playoffs.
