St. Louis Cardinals Break Record for Lowest Attendance at Third Busch Stadium

As the St. Louis Cardinals prepare to face off against the Pittsburgh Pirates in a four-game series, they have already made headlines for a different reason. The team has set a new record for the lowest attended game in the history of the third Busch Stadium.

Despite being one of the most successful teams in Major League Baseball, the Cardinals saw a disappointing turnout at their recent game against the Miami Marlins. With only 10,000 fans in attendance, the stadium was far from its capacity of 45,000.

This record-breaking low attendance has raised concerns among fans and analysts alike. The Cardinals have always been known for their loyal and passionate fan base, but this recent dip in attendance has left many wondering what could be the cause.

Some speculate that the team’s recent struggles on the field may have contributed to the low turnout. The Cardinals have had a rough start to the season, currently sitting at fourth place in the National League Central division.

Others point to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic as a possible factor. With restrictions and safety measures still in place, some fans may be hesitant to attend large events like baseball games.

Despite the disappointing attendance, the Cardinals remain determined to turn things around. As they head into their series against the Pirates, the team is focused on putting on a strong performance for their loyal fans and hopefully breaking their own record for the lowest attended game.

Only time will tell if the Cardinals can bounce back and reclaim their spot as one of the most well-attended teams in the league. But for now, this record-breaking low attendance serves as a reminder that even the most successful teams can face challenges both on

Cardinals Break Record for Lowest Attendance at Busch Stadium III on Monday

St. Louis Cardinals fans have had little to cheer about this season. Despite being considered potential sellers at the trade deadline, the team’s current president of baseball operations, John Mozeliak, has focused on building a strong foundation for the future.

But with a 65-67 record and a 16.5 game deficit in the NL Central, the Cardinals are still fighting for a spot in the postseason. However, Monday night’s game against the Pittsburgh Pirates didn’t seem to draw much excitement from fans.

According to The Athletic’s Katie Woo, the official attendance at Busch Stadium for the game was a record-setting low of 17,675. This is the lowest attendance for a single game at Busch Stadium III, which opened in 2006.

Woo also noted that the stadium is often referred to as “Busch Stadium III” to distinguish it from the previous two stadiums that shared the same name. The first Busch Stadium opened in 1953 and the second in 1966, with the third and current stadium opening in 2006.

Despite the disappointing attendance numbers, the Cardinals managed to pull off a walk-off win against the Pirates, with starting pitcher Michael McGreevy leading the way. But with the team still 5.5 games behind the New York Mets for the final spot in the NL Wild Card, it remains to be seen if the Cardinals can turn their season around and give their fans something to truly cheer about.
