The Righty’s Season Cut Short by Major Surgery

A devastating blow has been dealt to the team as their star right-handed player will be sidelined for a significant amount of time. The reason? A major surgery that will require a lengthy recovery period.

The news was announced by the team’s medical staff, who revealed that the righty had been struggling with a lingering injury for some time. After consulting with specialists, it was determined that surgery was the best course of action to fully address the issue.

The surgery, which is scheduled for next week, will require the righty to be out of commission for at least six months. This means that the team will have to make do without their key player for a large portion of the season.

The righty’s absence will undoubtedly be felt on the field, as they have been a crucial part of the team’s success in recent years. Their strong arm and precise pitching have been a major asset, and their leadership on and off the field will be sorely missed.

The team’s coach expressed their disappointment at the news, but also emphasized the importance of the righty’s health and well-being. They assured fans that the team will do everything in their power to support the righty during their recovery and look forward to their return to the field.

Right-handed pitcher Tekoah Roby, ranked as the team’s No. 6 prospect, underwent Tommy John surgery on Friday, which could potentially keep him out of action until 2027.

The 23-year-old was having a strong season before his injury, boasting a career-low 3.10 ERA in 16 starts between Double-A and Triple-A. He also had a 7-4 record and pitched 78 1/3 innings, the most he has thrown since 2022 when he completed 104 2/3 innings.

Roby had an impressive 87 strikeouts and only 19 walks, resulting in a 1.10 WHIP, his best since 2021. Despite some struggles against right-handed batters this season, the former 3rd-round pick was making a case for a potential MLB call-up this year, but now he will have to wait over a year to return to the field.

Roby joins fellow Cardinals pitching prospect Cooper Hjerpe, ranked No. 10, as players who have undergone Tommy John surgery this season. He also adds to the growing list of injuries to the team’s pitching prospects throughout the year.

No. 7 prospect Tink Hence is currently on the 7-day injured list for the second time this season, while No. 2 prospect Quinn Mathews has also spent time on the list. With major injuries to Roby and Hjerpe, and lingering issues with Hence, it’s no surprise that the team drafted 12 college pitchers earlier this month.

Aside from Mathews, the Cardinals’ most reliable remaining pitching prospect is No. 11 prospect Ixan Henderson, who was not even ranked in the team’s top 30 at the beginning of the year. The 23-year-old lefty has been dominant with the Springfield team, posting a 2.37 ERA in 17 appearances and recording 96 strikeouts in 91 innings pitched. With Roby’s extended absence, Henderson could be a strong candidate for a promotion to Triple-A.
