Comptroller Baringer Calls for Investigation into Issuance of Payroll Checks
Former Comptroller’s Payroll Checks Raise Concerns
In a recent statement, Comptroller Baringer has requested the Civil Service Commission to conduct a formal investigation into the issuance of payroll checks to the former Comptroller after her departure from office on August 7, 2025. This request comes after reports surfaced regarding the checks and related communications, raising serious questions that demand immediate review.
According to Baringer, several City departments and entities have roles in this matter. However, given the involvement of the former Comptroller as an individual, who was a heavily contested opponent in the recent election, Baringer believes that others should lead the investigation to ensure impartiality.
The purpose of the investigation is to determine whether the disbursements were properly authorized, lawful, and in compliance with City policies. Baringer emphasizes the importance of transparency and accountability in managing taxpayer dollars and believes that this review will uphold those standards.
The Office of the Comptroller is committed to cooperating with the investigation in any way necessary. Baringer expects a detailed report of findings and any recommended corrective measures within 30 days. She stresses the importance of maintaining the integrity of the City’s financial systems to preserve public trust in the government.
