The Dodgers Fall Short at Trade Deadline and Struggle with Injuries
The Los Angeles Dodgers, known for their aggressive moves at the trade deadline, surprised fans this year with a lack of activity. And unfortunately, the early results have not been promising. One player in particular, Brock Stewart, has had a rough return to the team, with only four appearances before being sidelined due to injury.
On August 4th, Stewart suffered a loss to the St. Louis Cardinals, adding to the Dodgers’ recent struggles on the field. But it wasn’t just the loss that was concerning – Stewart was then placed on the 15-day injured list due to a right injury.
This news comes as a disappointment to Dodgers fans, who were hoping for a strong showing at the trade deadline to bolster the team’s chances at a successful season. In previous years, the Dodgers have been known for their bold moves and big acquisitions, but this year they seemed to take a more conservative approach.
Despite the lack of activity at the trade deadline, the Dodgers still have a talented roster and are currently leading their division. However, injuries have been a major obstacle for the team this season. In addition to Stewart, key players such as Clayton Kershaw and Corey Seager have also spent time on the injured list.
As the season continues, the Dodgers will need to find a way to overcome these injuries and get back to their winning ways. Fans will be eagerly watching to see if the team makes any moves before the waiver trade deadline in August, and if they can bounce back from their recent struggles on the field.
The Dodgers Fall Short at Trade Deadline, But New Additions Show Promise
The Dodgers have been known for their active trade deadline moves in the past, but this year they seemed to take a step back. And the early results were not exactly inspiring.
One of their new additions, Brock Stewart, only lasted four appearances before being placed on the injured list due to shoulder inflammation. Another new player, Alex Call, was struggling with a .174 batting average in his first 28 plate appearances with the team.
But on Tuesday, Call showed why the Dodgers were interested in him, as he collected four hits and came just one triple shy of hitting for the cycle in the team’s 11-4 win over the Colorado Rockies.
In an interview with SportsNet LA, Call talked about his mindset during his final two at-bats, where he had a chance at hitting for the cycle.
“I was just trying to get on base. It’s tough when everyone is yelling ‘If you hit the ball, you better not stop running.’ It’s a special thing to even be in that situation. I didn’t do it tonight, but maybe in the future.”
The Dodgers also faced some defensive struggles in their game against the Rockies, with a misplayed pop up in the ninth inning leading to the game-winning run. Right fielder Teoscar Hernández, who has a respectable fielding percentage, has been struggling with his defensive performance this season.
Despite this, manager Dave Roberts has not discussed the possibility of moving Mookie Betts back to right field to help with the team’s defensive struggles. In fact, Roberts has confidence in Hernández’s abilities and believes he will improve.
“There have been times when he’s played a formidable right field. I think he’s going to get back to that. I really do.
