Emergency Shelter Available for St. Louisans Affected by Tornado
St. Louis residents who have been displaced from their homes due to the May 16 tornado or are currently experiencing homelessness can find refuge at several emergency shelter locations on Monday, Nov. 10.
140 Beds Available for Overnight Stay
Starting at 6 p.m. on Monday, about 140 emergency shelter beds will be available for individuals and families in need. These shelters will remain open until 9 a.m. on Tuesday, and if temperatures remain below freezing, they will stay open until temperatures rise above freezing.
Various Shelter Options Available
There are a variety of shelter options available, including congregate shelters for single men and women, as well as family rooms. These shelters are designed to provide a safe and warm place for those in need.
Call United Way for Shelter and Transportation Assistance
To be connected with a shelter and transportation to the shelter, please call the United Way of Greater St. Louis at 211. They will assist in finding the best shelter option for you and your family.
What to Bring to the Shelter
While not required, individuals and families are encouraged to bring the following items to the shelter: changes of clothes, pillows and bedding, toiletries, essential medication, and comfort items for themselves and their children.
Partnerships Make Shelters Possible
The City of St. Louis has partnered with various organizations, including the St. Louis City Continuum of Care, the United Way of Greater St. Louis, the American Red Cross, and several others, to provide these emergency shelters and related services.
Previous Night’s Shelter Availability
On Sunday night, there were 117 emergency shelter beds available, and 61 were filled. Additionally, there are 400 shelter beds available year-round in the City of St. Louis.
