The Deadline to Apply for FEMA Individual Assistance is Approaching for St. Louis Residents Affected by Disaster

The clock is ticking for St. Louis City and St. Louis County residents affected by the May 16 disaster. The deadline to apply for FEMA Individual Assistance is Tuesday, August 26.

If your home or personal property suffered damage that is not covered by insurance, FEMA may be able to provide financial assistance for home repairs, temporary housing, and essential personal property that was destroyed.

The fastest and easiest way to apply for Individual Assistance is through DisasterAssistance.gov or by calling FEMA at 1-800-621-3362. If you are unable to apply online or by phone, you can visit a Disaster Recovery Center for assistance. Check the Disaster Recovery Center page for locations and hours.

But don’t worry if you miss the deadline. Help is still available after August 26 through DisasterAssistance.gov or by calling FEMA at 1-800-621-3362. Stay in touch with FEMA to keep them updated on your recovery needs.

Helpful Tips for Applying for FEMA Individual Assistance

  • Read your letter from FEMA carefully.
  • Provide contractor estimates for disaster-related repairs, including contractor contact information.
  • If you need assistance with rent, be sure to contact FEMA and let them know.
  • If you received rental assistance from FEMA and need more help while working on your permanent housing plan, stay in touch with FEMA. You may be eligible for Continued Temporary Housing Assistance (CTHA).
  • When contacting FEMA, make sure to provide your nine-digit FEMA registration ID number and include it on any documents you send to them.
  • Keep receipts for any disaster-related purchases, such as items for home repairs or hotel stays.
  • Notify FEMA if your housing situation, phone number, or mailing address changes.

U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) Centers Offer Additional Assistance

If you do not qualify for FEMA assistance or if you have additional damage not covered by FEMA or your insurance, you may be eligible for a disaster loan from the Small Business Administration (SBA). Their Business Recovery Centers (BRCs) and Disaster Loan Outreach Centers (DLOCs) provide in-person support for disaster loan applications, status checks, and guidance on available funds for businesses, nonprofits, homeowners, and renters affected by a declared disaster.

The deadline to submit your loan application is also August 26.
