New Year, New Resolutions: How to Stick to Your Fitness Goals

It’s that time of year again – a fresh start, a clean slate, and a chance to set new goals for ourselves. For many of us, getting fit and healthy is at the top of our list. But let’s face it, sticking to those resolutions can be tough. In fact, studies have shown that 95% of New Year’s Resolutions are health and fitness related, yet many of us give up on them by mid-January. So how can we break this cycle and finally achieve our fitness goals? Let’s take a look at some tips and tricks to help you stay on track.

Set Realistic Goals

One of the main reasons people give up on their fitness resolutions is because they set unrealistic goals for themselves. Instead of aiming to lose 20 pounds in a month or run a marathon in a week, set smaller, achievable goals. This will not only make your journey more manageable, but it will also give you a sense of accomplishment as you reach each milestone.

Find an Accountability Partner

Having someone to hold you accountable can make all the difference in sticking to your fitness goals. Whether it’s a friend, family member, or personal trainer, having someone to check in with and motivate you can keep you on track and motivated.

Mix It Up

Doing the same workout routine day after day can quickly become boring and lead to burnout. Keep things interesting by mixing up your workouts. Try a new class, go for a hike, or switch up your strength training routine. This will not only keep you engaged, but it will also challenge your body in new ways.

Track Your Progress

Tracking your progress is a great way to stay motivated and see how far you’ve come. Whether it’s through a fitness app, a journal, or simply taking measurements, seeing your progress can give you the push you need to keep going.

Reward Yourself

Don’t forget to celebrate your successes along the way. Set small rewards for yourself as you reach your goals. This could be treating yourself to a massage, buying a new workout outfit, or indulging in your favorite healthy meal. These rewards will not only keep you motivated, but they will also remind you of the progress you’ve made.

Don’t Give Up

Lastly, don’t give up. It’s normal to have setbacks and slip-ups, but it’s important to not let them discourage you. Remember why you set your fitness goals in the first place and keep pushing forward. With determination and perseverance, you can achieve anything you set your mind to.
