Executive Order 90 Signed to Remove Barriers for Tornado-Impacted Neighborhoods and Zoning Code Overhaul
Attention all St. Louis residents! Mayor Cara Spencer has taken action to speed up the process of rebuilding and repairing properties in neighborhoods affected by the May 16 tornado. In addition, the City is also beginning a major overhaul of its Zoning Code to remove barriers across the city.
Effective immediately, Executive Order 90 will provide relief from regulatory barriers for those who have lost so much in the tornado. This order will be in place for one year and will include the following measures:
- Flexibility for the Cultural Resources Office staff to review and approve permits for impacted local historic districts in cases of verified hardship and unusual circumstances.
- Extension of the validity period for previously granted conditional use permits.
- Extension of time and scope for repairing or replacing legally nonconforming structures.
- Encouragement for the extension of building permits in case of delays in construction.
These measures will not only benefit tornado victims, but also residents across the City. The City will prioritize these actions to be most helpful for those affected by the tornado.
