Padres Pitcher Dylan Cease Draws Interest, But Other Pitching Prospects Also on San Diego’s Radar Ahead of MLB Trade Deadline

As the MLB trade deadline looms closer, all eyes are on the San Diego Padres and their potential moves. While much of the focus has been on star pitcher Dylan Cease, it seems that the Padres have also been garnering interest for other pitching prospects.

Cease, who has been a standout player for the Padres this season, has caught the attention of several teams looking to bolster their pitching rotation. However, it appears that he is not the only pitcher on the Padres’ radar.

According to sources, the Padres have received inquiries about other pitching prospects, including top prospects Mackenzie Gore and Luis Patiño. Both Gore and Patiño have been highly touted by the organization and have shown great potential in the minor leagues.

With the Padres currently sitting in third place in the NL West, it’s no surprise that they are looking to make moves to improve their chances of making a playoff run. And with the trade deadline quickly approaching, it’s clear that they are open to considering offers for their top pitching prospects.

While Cease may be the most sought-after pitcher on the Padres’ roster, it’s clear that the team has a wealth of talent in their pitching staff. And with the right offer, they may be willing to part ways with one of their promising young arms.

The San Diego Padres: Eyeing the Top Spot in the NL West and Making Moves at the Trade Deadline

Padres Look to Snap Losing Streak Against Cardinals, But Could Be Moving Multiple Pitchers

The San Diego Padres have been making waves in the National League Wild Card race, but their sights are set even higher as they aim to overtake the Los Angeles Dodgers for the top spot in the NL West. However, as they prepare to face the St. Louis Cardinals on Friday, the team is also facing the looming MLB trade deadline and the possibility of making some major moves.

It’s no secret that the Padres have been shopping pitcher Dylan Cease, who is owed $13.75 million this season. Cease has struggled in 2025, with a 3-10 record, 4.59 ERA, and 1.30 WHIP. With the deadline approaching, it seems likely that the Padres will be looking to offload his contract.

General manager A.J. Preller has made it clear that he intends to be aggressive at the trade deadline. According to The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal, Preller is known for his sense of urgency and is not afraid to make changes to the pitching rotation. In fact, it’s all part of his plan.

While it’s uncertain if Cease will be moved, the Padres have caught the attention of other teams who are interested in acquiring some of their pitching prospects. Rosenthal reports that teams have been calling about right-handed pitchers Ryan Bergert and Stephen Kolek.

Bergert, a 25-year-old rookie, has appeared in 10 games for the Padres this season, starting in six of them. He has been impressive, with a 2.84 ERA, 1.14 WHIP, and 30 strikeouts in 31.2 innings pitched. Kolek, a 28-year-old in his second year, has started in 13 games and has a 3-5 record, 4.28 ERA, 1.32 WHIP, and 54 strikeouts in 73.2 innings. Both pitchers have drawn interest from teams around the league.
