The St. Louis Cardinals: Ready to Rebuild and Trade Away Key Players?

Is it time for the St. Louis Cardinals to hit the reset button? As the backend of the season approaches, it seems that the Cardinals are gearing up for a major rebuild. While they have already traded away some expiring relievers at the trade deadline, there are rumors that more players could be on the chopping block once the regular season comes to an end.

According to FanSided’s Curt Bishop, one player who could potentially be traded is All-Star second baseman Brendan Donovan. In a recent article, Bishop suggested that trading Donovan this offseason could be the first step in kickstarting the Cardinals’ rebuild.

“Even if it means a few years of rebuilding, the Cardinals need to focus on restocking their farm system with top prospects,” Bishop wrote.

With the Cardinals currently sitting at third place in the NL Central, it’s clear that changes need to be made in order for the team to return to contention. And with Donovan being one of their top players, trading him could bring in valuable prospects that could help the team in the long run.

While it may be a tough decision for the Cardinals to part ways with Donovan, it could ultimately benefit the team in the long term. Only time will tell if the Cardinals will indeed make this move, but one thing is for sure: the team is ready to make some major changes as they look towards the future.
