St. Louis Cardinals Shut Out Chicago Cubs 5-0 Behind Strong Pitching and Power Hitting
In a dominant performance, Michael McGreevy led the St. Louis Cardinals to a 5-0 victory over the Chicago Cubs on Friday night. The Cardinals’ pitcher tossed six scoreless innings, while Jordan Walker added to the offensive onslaught with a home run and two RBIs.

On the other side, Cubs’ starter Matthew Boyd (11-5) struggled to contain the Cardinals’ offense, giving up three runs on seven hits in just five innings. Despite striking out three batters, Boyd was unable to keep the Cubs in the game.
The Cardinals’ victory extends their winning streak to four games, while the Cubs have now lost four of their last six games. With this win, the Cardinals improve their record to 62-55, while the Cubs fall to 58-60.

ST. LOUIS (AP) — Michael McGreevy dominates as Cardinals shut out Cubs 5-0
St. Louis Cardinals starting pitcher Michael McGreevy delivered a stellar performance, tossing six scoreless innings, while Jordan Walker homered and drove in two runs to lead the Cardinals to a 5-0 victory over the Chicago Cubs on Friday night.
McGreevy (4-2) allowed just six hits and a walk, while Matt Svanson, JoJo Romero, and Riley O’Brien combined for three shutout innings in relief.
On the other side, Cubs’ starter Matthew Boyd (11-5) struggled, giving up three runs on seven hits in just five innings. The loss marks the fourth in the last six games for the Cubs.
Walker’s fourth home run of the season off Ryan Brasier in the sixth inning extended the Cardinals’ lead to 4-0. It was Walker’s first homer since May 17 at Kansas City.
The Cardinals added to their lead in the fifth inning with a sacrifice fly from Iván Herrera and an RBI single from Willson Contreras, making it 3-0.
St. Louis got on the board first in the second inning when Alec Burleson singled, Masyn Winn doubled, and Walker hit an RBI single that just eluded Cubs shortstop Dansby Swanson.
Former All-Star catcher Yadier Molina was in uniform and in the Cardinals’ dugout as a temporary coach.
Key moment
In the bottom of the second inning, Thomas Saggese was initially called out at first base on a ground ball to Boyd, but Cardinals manager Oliver Marmol challenged the call and it was overturned, loading the bases with no outs. Boyd then struck out Pedro Pagés and induced a weak comebacker from Garrett Hampson for an inning-ending double play.

Boyd allowed three runs after giving up just four earned runs in 28 innings in his previous five starts against St. Louis.
