Kyle Freeland’s Passion for the Rockies Shines Through in His Performance

Rockies pitcher Kyle Freeland not only wears his love for the team on his sleeve, but also shows it through his impressive performance on the field. In a game against the Cardinals, Freeland delivered his best performance of the season, leading the Rockies to a 3-0 victory and breaking their eight-game losing streak.

But Freeland wasn’t the only one making headlines in this game. Catcher Hunter Goodman’s massive home run also played a crucial role in securing the win for the Rockies. This was only the second shutout of the season for Colorado, with the first one also being against the Cardinals on July 23 at Coors Field.

It’s clear that the Rockies have a strong connection with the Cardinals, and this game was no exception. Freeland’s passion for his team and his determination to break their losing streak was evident in his performance, making him a key player in this victory. With his love for the Rockies on full display, Freeland continues to prove himself as a valuable asset to the team.

Colorado Rockies’ Kyle Freeland Dominates Cardinals in 3-0 Win

On Tuesday, August 12, 2025, Colorado Rockies’ starting pitcher Kyle Freeland showed his love for his team both on and off the field. With the numbers 303 and 5,280 tattooed on his arm, the Denver native’s passion for the Rockies was evident as he threw a stellar game against the St. Louis Cardinals at Busch Stadium. Behind Freeland’s best performance of the season and a massive home run by catcher Hunter Goodman, the Rockies snapped an eight-game losing streak with a 3-0 win.

Freeland’s Best Start of the Season

Freeland was in top form, pitching 7 1/3 scoreless innings and giving up just five hits. It was his longest start since his no-hitter in 2017 and manager Warren Schaeffer praised it as the best start from any Rockies player this season. Freeland’s energy level was back after battling an illness in his previous two starts, and he credited his success to a good game plan and working with catcher Hunter Goodman.

“It definitely feels good to be healthy and 100% going out there,” Freeland told reporters. “Especially after those two rough ones, where my health wasn’t that great. But tonight, I felt really good out there, working with ‘Goody.’ We had a good game plan going in.”

Dominant Performance and Five-Out Save

Freeland may have only struck out two batters, but he induced three groundball double plays and recorded 11 outs via groundball. He left the game in the eighth inning after giving up a single and a walk, but closer Victor Vodnik came in for a five-out save, his third of the season. Vodnik struck out the dangerous Brendan Donovan and Ivan Herrera to close out the eighth, and then shut down the Cardinals in the ninth with a double and two flyouts before striking out Jordan Walker with a wicked changeup to end the game.

“Getting it to the eighth inning was huge for us and our bullpen,” Schaffer said. “And Vic, with five days off, came in and got a five-out save, which was great for him – and for us.”

Goodman’s Massive Home Run

The Rockies’ offense was powered by catcher Hunter Goodman, who hit a 442-foot home run off of Cardinals’ starter Mathew Liberatore in the fourth inning. It was the longest homer hit by a Rockies player this season and gave the team a 2-0 lead. Goodman’s performance, along with Freeland’s dominant pitching, helped secure just the second shutout of the season for Colorado.

The Rockies will look to continue their winning ways as they take on the Cardinals again tomorrow night at Busch Stadium. With Freeland back at full strength and the team’s passion for the game on full display, they are poised for another strong performance.
