Jazz Chisholm Jr. Hits Homer, Luis Gil Shines in Yankees’ 4-3 Victory over Cardinals

In a thrilling Friday night matchup, the New York Yankees came out on top with a 4-3 win against the St. Louis Cardinals. The game was highlighted by a homer from Jazz Chisholm Jr. and a stellar performance from pitcher Luis Gil.

Gil, who was making his third start of the season, allowed just one run on four hits and three walks while striking out four batters over 5 1/3 innings. His impressive outing helped keep the Cardinals’ offense at bay and set the tone for the rest of the game.

But it wasn’t just Gil who shined on the mound for the Yankees. David Bednar came in for the ninth inning and pitched a scoreless frame, earning his 19th save of the season and his second with the Yankees.

Chisholm Jr.’s homer in the fourth inning gave the Yankees an early lead and proved to be a crucial moment in the game. The young infielder has been a key player for the team this season and continues to make an impact with his powerful hitting.

With this win, the Yankees improve their record to 72-63 and remain in the hunt for a playoff spot. St. Louis, MO – In a thrilling game on Friday night, Jazz Chisholm Jr. of the New York Yankees hit a two-run home run in the first inning to help his team defeat the St. Louis Cardinals 4-3. The game was filled with exciting moments and standout performances, including a strong pitching performance by Luis Gil and a clutch save by David Bednar.

Luis Gil (1-1) was dominant on the mound, allowing only one run on four hits and three walks while striking out four batters in 5 1/3 innings. His stellar performance helped the Yankees secure the win and improve their record for the season.

On the other side, Andre Pallante (6-10) struggled on the mound for the Cardinals, giving up four runs on six hits and three walks in just five innings. Despite striking out a season-high eight batters, he was unable to contain the Yankees’ offense.

The game was not without its share of drama, as the Cardinals made a late comeback attempt in the bottom of the seventh inning. Victor Scott II hit an RBI double and Pedro Pagés scored on a wild pitch to cut the Yankees’ lead to 4-3. However, the Yankees’ bullpen held strong and secured the victory.

The Yankees got off to a strong start in the first inning, with Jason Domínguez hitting an RBI single and Jazz Chisholm Jr. hitting a two-run homer, his 21st of the season. This early lead proved to be crucial in the end.

One of the most memorable moments of the game came in the top of the eighth inning, when Yankees first baseman Paul Goldschmidt made his first appearance at Busch Stadium since playing for the Cardinals from 2019-2024. Goldschmidt, who has been dealing with a mild right knee sprain, entered the game as a defensive replacement and received a warm welcome from the fans.

Another standout performer for the Yankees was Aaron Judge, who reached base safely in 98 of his 112 games played this season. Although he went 0 for 4 in this game, he drew a walk in the ninth inning off Matt Svanson.

The Yankees will look to continue their winning streak in their next game, with Max Fried (12-5, 2.94 ERA) scheduled to take the mound against Sonny Gray (11-5, 4.06 ERA) of the Cardinals on Saturday.
