Milwaukee had barely pulled out the previous two games in Cincinnati for its longest streak ever within one season and the longest in the majors since the St. Louis Cardinals won 17 straight from Sept. 11 to Sept. 28, 2021.

CINCINNATI — Reds End Brewers’ Record-Breaking Winning Streak in 10th Inning

In a nail-biting game on Sunday, the Cincinnati Reds defeated the Milwaukee Brewers 3-2 in the 10th inning, putting an end to the Brewers’ franchise-record winning streak of 14 games. The Brewers had narrowly escaped with wins in the previous two games against the Reds, making this victory even more significant.

The Reds’ victory was sealed by Austin Hays’ single with the bases loaded, giving him his second career walk-off hit. This was a much-needed win for the Reds, who had been struggling against the Brewers in the past two games.

The game was tied at 1-1 until the ninth inning when William Contreras hit a two-run home run off Reds closer Emilio Pagan, putting the Brewers ahead. However, the Reds were not ready to give up and tied the game in the bottom of the ninth when Will Benson reached on a fielding error and later scored on Jose Trevino’s single.

The game remained scoreless through six innings, with both teams’ pitchers putting on a stellar performance. Reds’ left-hander Andrew Abbott and Brewers’ lefty Jose Quintana combined for 11 strikeouts and only six hits.

In the end, it was Graham Ashcraft who earned the win for the Reds, while Grant Anderson took the loss for the Brewers. The Brewers, who have been dominating the league with a 53-17 record in their last 70 games, will have to regroup after this loss.

The Reds, on the other hand, continue to make history as the only team in the league that has not been swept in a series this season. This win also marks their 40th series without a sweep, breaking the franchise record set by the 1970 team.

Looking ahead, the Brewers will face the Cubs at Wrigley Field on Monday, with Freddy Peralta taking the mound. The Reds will take on the Angels in Anaheim, with Brady Singer as their starting pitcher.
