The St. Louis Cardinals Make Roster Moves: Top Prospects Called Up, Burleson and Pozo Placed on Injured List
In a surprising turn of events, the St. Louis Cardinals have made some major changes to their roster. On Friday, the team announced that outfielder Alec Burleson and catcher Yahel Pozo have been placed on the injured list. In their place, the Cardinals have called up two top prospects from Triple-A Memphis.
Burleson, who has been dealing with right wrist inflammation, was placed on the 10-day injured list. The team has revealed that he received an injection in his wrist to help with the inflammation. After giving it 48 hours to settle, the Cardinals will reassess the injury and determine the next steps for Burleson’s recovery.
This news comes as a blow to the Cardinals, as Burleson has been a key player for the team this season. In 31 games, he has recorded a .275 batting average with 3 home runs and 12 RBIs. His absence will surely be felt on the field.
In addition to Burleson, catcher Yahel Pozo has also been placed on the injured list. The specifics of his injury have not been disclosed, but the team has stated that he will be out for an undetermined amount of time. Pozo has been a reliable backup for the Cardinals, appearing in 14 games and recording a .250 batting average.
To fill the void left by Burleson and Pozo, the Cardinals have called up two of their top prospects from Triple-A Memphis. These young players have been making waves in the minor leagues and are now being given the opportunity to showcase their talents at the major league level.
The Cardinals have not yet announced who these prospects are, but fans are eagerly anticipating their debut. With the team currently sitting in second place in the NL Central, these roster changes could have a significant impact on their performance in the coming weeks.
Stay tuned for updates on the injured players and the debut of the top prospects as the Cardinals continue their quest for a playoff spot.
