JJ Bleday’s Two Homers Lead Athletics to 11-3 Victory Over Cardinals
ST. LOUIS – In a dominant performance, the Oakland Athletics defeated the St. Louis Cardinals 11-3 on Monday night. The game, which took place at Busch Stadium, saw JJ Bleday hit two home runs and Zack Gelof contribute a home run and three hits to help the Athletics snap a three-game losing streak.
The Cardinals, who had won three consecutive games, were unable to keep up with the Athletics’ strong offense. Sonny Gray, the Cardinals’ starting pitcher, struggled on the mound, allowing seven runs on 10 hits and three walks in just six-plus innings.
The Cardinals did manage to get on the board in the fourth inning when Iván Herrera hit his 12th home run of the season. However, it was not enough to overcome the Athletics’ dominant performance.
The Athletics’ Luis Severino (6-11, 4.82 ERA) will face off against the Cardinals’ Miles Mikolas (6-10, 5.04 ERA) in Tuesday night’s game. Both teams will be looking to bounce back from their recent losses and secure a win.
The game was a disappointing one for the Cardinals, who were hoping to continue their winning streak. But the Athletics proved to be too strong, with Bleday and Gelof leading the way with their impressive hitting.
