St. Louis Cardinals Place Victor Scott II on Injured List with Left Ankle Sprain

ST. LOUIS – The St. Louis Cardinals have announced that outfielder Victor Scott II has been placed on the 10-day injured list due to a left ankle sprain. This news comes before the team’s series finale against the New York Yankees on Sunday.

Scott underwent an MRI which revealed the extent of his injury. The sprain occurred when he collided with the outfield wall while trying to catch a home run hit by Aaron Judge during Saturday’s game, which ended in a 12-8 victory for the Yankees.

In response to Scott’s injury, the Cardinals have selected outfielder Nathan Church and left-handed pitcher Anthony Veneziano from Triple-A Memphis. Right-handed pitcher Roddery Muñoz has been optioned to Memphis.

Church, who will start in center field and bat ninth, will be making his major league debut.

Scott’s injury occurred as he was attempting to rob Judge of a home run. Despite his valiant effort, he landed awkwardly on his left ankle after going high above the center-field wall with his glove. Scott has played in 116 games this season and has a batting average of .223 with five home runs, 35 RBIs, and 31 stolen bases.

In addition to Scott, two other starters are currently out of the St. Louis lineup due to injuries. First baseman Willson Contreras is dealing with a right foot contusion after being hit by a pitch on Tuesday and has not played since. Alec Burleson has been filling in at first base during Contreras’ absence.

Second baseman Brendan Donovan is also sidelined with left foot and groin soreness since being removed from a game against Toronto on June 10. He has not played in the series against the Yankees.

As the Cardinals continue to deal with injuries, they will look to their replacements to step up and contribute to the team’s success. Stay tuned for updates on Scott’s recovery and the status of other injured players.
