Taveras struggled this season with a 6.02 ERA in 28 games (four starts) between Double-A and Triple-A.

Pitcher Chen-Wei Lin Transferred to Double-A Springfield

In addition to Taveras’ release, the Cardinals have also transferred pitcher Chen-Wei Lin from High-A Peoria to Double-A Springfield. Lin, who is ranked as the Cardinals’ No. 16 prospect by MLB Pipeline, has steadily progressed through the organization since signing a minor league contract in 2023. He struggled with a 4.89 ERA in 12 starts in High-A this season, but his impressive velocity has caught the attention of scouts.

Tanner Franklin Moves Up to High-A Peoria

Pitcher Tanner Franklin, the Cardinals’ No. 19 prospect, has been transferred from Single-A Palm Beach to High-A Peoria. Franklin has shown promise in the minors, but has yet to make his major league debut. He will look to continue his development in High-A after posting a 2.79 ERA in 22 starts with Palm Beach.

Lin’s Impressive Numbers in Single-A

While Lin’s numbers in High-A may not be as impressive, his performance in Single-A cannot be ignored. According to his scouting report on MLB Pipeline, Lin was the only player on Single-A Palm Beach in 2024 to throw over 100 mph, doing so 12 times and even reaching 101 mph. He also boasted a 10-5 record with a 2.79 ERA in 22 starts with Palm Beach.
