The City of St. Louis Launches Impacted Tenants’ Fund to Assist Renters Forced to Relocate
The City of St. Louis, in partnership with Employment Connection, is taking action to support eligible city renters who have been displaced from their homes due to their rented units being condemned by the City Building Division since January 1, 2025. This initiative, known as the Impacted Tenants’ Fund, aims to provide one-time financial assistance to those who have been impacted by this unfortunate situation.
“The Board of Aldermen has established the Impacted Tenants’ Fund because it is our responsibility to help tenants who have been forced to leave their residences through no fault of their own,” stated Adam Pearson, director of the Department of Human Services. “This fund demonstrates the City’s commitment to assisting our neighbors in need during difficult times.”
Employment Connection, the designated vendor for this program, will begin accepting applications for financial assistance on November 21, 2025. Interested individuals can obtain an application at the Employment Connection office located at 2838 Market St., St. Louis, MO 63103. Applications can also be submitted online. For those who choose to download and print the paper form, it must be submitted in person at the Employment Connection office along with the required supporting documentation.
“The citizens of St. Louis have endured a historic ordeal this year,” said Sal Martinez, chief executive officer of Employment Connection. “This program is just one part of a larger effort to rebuild and move forward. It involves collaboration between city departments, businesses, nonprofit organizations, and more.”
Eligible tenants will receive one month’s worth of rent, based on the federal government’s fair market rates, as one-time financial assistance. To qualify, applicants must provide a current lease for the impacted or condemned unit, a valid photo ID, and other documents such as a utility bill or official mail from the affected rental unit.
Applications will be accepted Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., at the Employment Connection office. Please note that their offices will be closed on November 27 and 28. For any questions regarding the application process, individuals can contact Employment Connection at 314-333-5627. Let’s come together as a community to support our neighbors in need during these challenging times.
