Rockies Look to Break Losing Streak Against Cardinals in St. Louis
After a tough 2-1 loss to the St. Louis Cardinals on Monday night, the Colorado Rockies are determined to bounce back and secure their elusive 31st win of the season on Tuesday. The Rockies (30-88) have been struggling, losing eight games in a row for the fifth time this season, including their current slide which began on August 3rd against the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Despite their recent struggles, the Rockies have had some success against the Cardinals this season, winning the three-game series at Coors Field earlier in the year. With two games remaining in St. Louis, the season series between the two teams is now tied at 2-2.
In Tuesday’s game, Kyle Freeland (2-12, 5.53 ERA) will take the mound for the Rockies. The left-handed pitcher will be making his 22nd start of the season, but he’s had a rough couple of outings. On July 30th, Freeland started despite not feeling well and managed to last three innings, giving up only two runs in a gritty performance. However, in his last start against the Toronto Blue Jays on August 6th, Freeland struggled with his command and gave up six runs in just 4 2/3 innings.
On the other side, the Cardinals will send Matthew Liberatore (6-9, 3.98 ERA) to the mound. The 25-year-old left-handed pitcher is in his fourth year in the Big Leagues and has been primarily used as a starter this season. In 21 starts, he has struck out 85 batters and walked 27 in 113 innings. However, Liberatore has not earned a win since June 29th and has not made it past the fifth inning in a game since then.
The weather in St. Louis has been rainy, which could potentially affect the game at Busch Stadium. However, things are looking brighter and drier as the game approaches.
The first pitch is scheduled for 5:45 p.m. MDT and the game will be broadcasted on Rockies.tv. Fans can also tune in to KOA 850 AM/94.1 FM or KNRV 1150 (Spanish) for radio coverage.
