The Arizona Diamondbacks: A Struggle in 2025

In 2023, the Arizona Diamondbacks captured the hearts of baseball fans everywhere with their inspiring World Series run. But now, just two years later, the team is facing a slight decline. Currently sitting below .500 and in fourth place in their division, the D-Backs are facing tough competition from the likes of the Los Angeles Dodgers and San Diego Padres.

Despite the struggles, there were high hopes for the Diamondbacks this year, especially with the impressive power displayed by players like Ketel Marte, Corbin Carroll, and Eugenio Suarez, all of whom have hit at least 19 home runs so far. So why is Arizona struggling?

One possible explanation could be the tough competition in their division. The Dodgers and Padres are both strong teams, making it difficult for the Diamondbacks to secure wins. Additionally, injuries and inconsistent performances from key players have also contributed to the team’s struggles.

But despite these challenges, the Diamondbacks are not giving up. They are determined to turn their season around and make a comeback in the second half. With the talent and determination of players like Marte, Carroll, and Suarez, anything is possible for the Arizona Diamondbacks.

The Arizona Diamondbacks Struggle in 2025, Potential Trade with St. Louis Cardinals

The Arizona Diamondbacks, just two years removed from their inspiring World Series run in 2023, have hit a rough patch this season. Currently sitting just below .500 and in fourth place in a division dominated by the Los Angeles Dodgers and San Diego Padres, the D-Backs were expected to face some challenges this year.

Despite the team’s offensive power, with players like Ketel Marte, Corbin Carroll, and Eugenio Suarez all hitting at least 19 home runs, the Diamondbacks have been struggling. This has led to speculation about whether the team will buy or sell at the upcoming trade deadline. And if they do decide to sell, one of their top pitchers, Zac Gallen, could be on the market.

According to The Athletic, the St. Louis Cardinals are one team that could greatly benefit from acquiring Gallen. While the Cardinals have Sonny Gray, who boasts a 9-3 record and 113 strikeouts, their other starting pitchers have been lacking. With the team in a tight race for an NL Wild Card spot, adding a reliable second starter like Gallen could be just what they need.

Currently, Gallen holds a 7-9 record with 107 strikeouts in 110 innings pitched. While his 5.15 ERA may be cause for concern, many believe that the All-Star break could help him return to his dominant form that almost earned him the NL Cy Young Award in 2023. The Athletic describes Gallen as “a proven starter having a down year.”

After fellow Diamondbacks pitcher Corbin Burnes suffered a season-ending Tommy John surgery, the team has been relying on Gallen and Merrill Kelly to carry the pitching staff. If their struggles continue after the All-Star break, it may not be a bad idea for the Diamondbacks to consider trading one of their top starters to St. Louis.
