The Diamondbacks Welcome the Astros and Christian Walker Before Hitting the Road

The first full week of post-All-Star break Major League Baseball action is here and the Arizona Diamondbacks are ready to take on the Houston Astros at home for three games starting July 21st. After that, they will hit the road for a nine-game trip, starting with three games against the Pittsburgh Pirates on July 25th.

But before they embark on their road trip, the Diamondbacks will wrap up a three-game series against the St. Louis Cardinals on July 20th. Then, they will continue their six-game homestand against the Astros.

Houston currently leads the American League West and had four players selected for the All-Star Game on July 15th. However, none of them were able to play in the game. Closer Josh Hader was not called in from the bullpen, infielder Isaac Paredes had a family matter to attend to, and infielder Jeremy Peña is dealing with a rib injury. Starting pitcher Hunter Brown also could not participate in the game as he had pitched the previous Sunday.

Peña had an impressive batting average of .322 before the break, while Brown and Framber Valdez combined for 19 wins in the first half of the season. Hader was also having a successful season, converting 25 out of 26 save opportunities.

The Astros have been a dominant force in the postseason for the past eight years and have two World Series titles under their belt. However, the team that won it all in 2022 has undergone significant changes, with José Altuve being the only remaining player from that championship team.

This series will also mark the return of former Diamondbacks first baseman Christian Walker, who left the team in free agency last offseason to sign with the Astros. Walker was a beloved player in Arizona and is sure to receive a warm welcome back to Chase Field. He had an impressive first half of the season, with a batting average of .286, an on-base percentage of .374, and 12 home runs and 47 RBIs in 90 games.

The Pirates, who previously took two out of three games from the Diamondbacks in late May, are currently struggling and are out of the race for an NL wild card spot. However, they have one of the most dynamic pitchers in the game, All-Star starter Paul Skenes, who may face off against the Diamondbacks at PNC Park during the weekend.

Don’t miss the action as the Diamondbacks take on the Astros and welcome back Christian Walker before hitting the road for a tough nine-game trip.
